TencelLurik is a traditional Javanese striped fabric in a variety of colours and designs that is produced on a handloom and is steeped in history. In 2020, the company looked at ways to utilise the cotton waste produced through garment production and began working with traditional artisans and old age homes in Klaten, Central Java to create their own Lurik using the cotton waste as the raw material. The resulting fabrics have been used in bateeq clothing collections and have elevated this traditional fabric to become a sought-after fashion icon that exemplifies unique Indonesian style.Lyocell fiber which is derived from cellulose or wood pulp undergoes an environmentally friendly production process to form yarns and fabrics that are known as Tencel. Tencel fibers are very strong in both wet and dry conditions and have good color absorption properties so colours and patterns do not fade easily. Tencel has a soft feeling against the skin and are very comfortable to wear; it can also be combined with other natural fibers such as cotton and wool depending on the requirements of the final product.

Waste RecyclingOver the last five years we have carefully studied our supply chains to see how to reduce and reuse fabric waste. Starting in 2020, cotton waste produced by Dan Liris is now turned into lurik fabric, a traditional striped fabric that is created by artisans in the local area and used in apparel collections by sister company bateeq. The wire used for cotton bales as well as yarn sizing waste which is woven into rope is then used to create handmade woven baskets and other handicraft products.
